Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 26, 2026
The short version
- Your videos are never uploaded. The video you convert and the GIF you make stay on your device. We never receive, see or store them.
- We don’t use advertising trackers, analytics cookies or third-party analytics.
- For free conversions we keep a daily counter tied to a salted, one-way hash of your IP address for 48 hours, to keep the free plan fair.
- Payments are processed by Stripe. We receive your email address and what you bought — never your card number.
What happens when you convert a video
- You paste a post link. Your browser sends the post ID (the number in the link) to our lookup service, a Cloudflare Worker.
- The Worker asks X’s public embed endpoint (cdn.syndication.twimg.com) — or, if that fails, the public FxTwitter API (api.fxtwitter.com) — which video files belong to that post, and returns the video links and public post details (author name, text, thumbnail) to your browser. Only the post ID is sent to those services, never your IP address or anything else about you. Nothing is cached or stored.
- Your browser downloads the video directly from X’s video servers (video.twimg.com) and the thumbnail from pbs.twimg.com. X can see these requests, just as when you watch a video on X.
- The first time you convert, your browser downloads the open-source converter engine (ffmpeg.wasm) from jsDelivr, or from unpkg as a fallback.
- The GIF is created on your device. We never receive the video, the GIF or any part of them.
Information we process
Free-plan usage counters
Before a free conversion, your browser asks our Worker for permission. The Worker checks a Cloudflare Turnstile token (to confirm you’re human) and increases a counter stored in Cloudflare Workers KV under a salted, one-way hash of your IP address and the current date. The counter is deleted automatically after 48 hours. We don’t store your raw IP address. Paid plans skip this step entirely.
Server logs
Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, which serves both the website and the Worker, may process standard request data such as IP address, browser type and the URL requested, to deliver the service and protect it from abuse. We don’t use this data to build profiles.
Purchases
Payments are processed by Stripe, which collects your payment details under its own privacy policy. We receive your email address, the plan you bought, the amount and a transaction ID so we can send your license key, give support and meet tax obligations. We never see or store full card numbers.
Emails
If you email us, we use your message and address only to reply and to handle your request.
Data stored in your browser
We don’t set cookies. The site stores a few small values in your browser’s local storage:
t2g_quota— how many free GIFs you made today (UTC).t2g_license— your license key, if you entered one.t2g_pack_used— how many GIF Pack conversions you’ve used.t2g_events— anonymous counters of on-page events (for example “page viewed” or “GIF converted”). They stay in your browser and are never sent to us.
You can delete all of these at any time by clearing this site’s data in your browser settings.
Cookies and bot protection
Cloudflare Turnstile loads only when you’re about to start a free conversion. It may process technical signals from your browser to tell people from bots; Cloudflare states that it doesn’t use this information for advertising. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
Third parties we use
- Cloudflare, Inc. — hosting and delivery of this website, Workers (post lookup and usage counters), Workers KV, Turnstile (bot protection) and Email Routing (forwarding mail sent to our addresses).
- Stripe, Inc. — payment processing. Stripe’s privacy policy.
- jsDelivr / unpkg — delivery of the open-source converter engine files.
- X Corp. — the source of the videos and thumbnails your browser loads.
- FxTwitter — backup lookup of public post data; it receives only the post ID.
We don’t sell or share your personal information with anyone for advertising.
How long we keep data
- Free-plan counters: 48 hours.
- Purchase records: as long as tax and accounting laws require (usually up to 7 years).
- Support emails: until your request is resolved, plus a reasonable period for follow-up.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or the CCPA), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export the personal data we hold about you, and to object to its processing. Because we hold very little, most requests can be answered quickly — email hello@twittergif.com.
Children
TwitterGIF isn’t directed to children under 13 (or under 16 where local law requires), and we don’t knowingly collect their personal data.
International transfers
Our providers may process data in the United States and other countries. Where required, these transfers rely on safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we’ll update the date at the top of this page and highlight material changes here.
